Emergency School Closing Procedures
It is occasionally necessary to close school because of severe weather conditions. Parents are asked to listen to local radio and/or TV Stations on days when there are indications of severe weather conditions.
Delayed Openings
During winter months, walking and driving may become hazardous due to icy roads. Later, these hazardous conditions could disappear as the temperature rises, Under such circumstances, the Superintendent of Schools may delay the beginning of school. Delayed openings will also be announced on radio broadcasts.
In those instances when a storm develops after school begins, usual procedure is NOT to close school early, if possible. This allows more time for highway crews to plow and sand the roads used by school buses and has proved to be less disruptive and confusing than attempting to send students home early, many to unsupervised homes.
When our school district is closed, no transportation will be furnished to Tuxedo High School, BOCES classes, non-public schools or after-school activities.
We suggest that each family decide in advance what their child will do if school is delayed or closed.
